March 23, 2023

On the evening of March 23, 2023, there was an unpredicted severe (category G4) geomagnetic storm.  The aurora was already visible in the evening twilight, joining the setting crescent Moon and Venus.  I used two cameras, a Canon 6D with a Sigma 20mm ART lens and a Canon 6D MKII with a Sigma 8mm fisheye lens to capture the full sky aurora.  During one of the imaging runs, the International Space Station made a flyby directly through the camera’s field of view.
